Musnad Ahmad 4129

Translation

✧ Allah has cursed the women who tattoo, those who have themselves tattooed, those who pluck their eyebrows, and those who file their teeth for beauty, altering Allah’s creation. This reached a woman in the house called Umm Ya‘qūb, so she came to him and said: ‘I have heard that you said such-and-such.’ He said: ‘Why should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cursed, and it is in the Book of Allah, Mighty and Glorious?’ She said: ‘I read what is between its two covers and I did not find it.’ He said: ‘If you read it, you found it. Did you not read: “And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, abstain from it”?’ She said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘The Prophet ﷺ forbade it.’ She said: ‘I think your own family does it.’ He said: ‘Go and look.’ She looked and saw nothing of what she sought. She came back and said: ‘I did not see anything.’ He said: ‘If it were so, she would not live with us.’
