✧ Indeed, the creation of one of you is gathered in his mother’s womb in forty days – or he said: forty nights. Wakiʿ said: nights. Then he becomes a clinging clot for the like of that, then he becomes a lump of flesh for the like of that. Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sends the angel to him with four words: his deeds, his lifespan, his provision, and whether he is wretched or blessed. Then the soul is breathed into him. By the One besides whom there is no god, one of you may perform the deeds of the people of Paradise until there is between him and it only a cubit, then the decree overtakes him and he is sealed with the deeds of the people of the Fire, so he becomes one of its people. And one of you may perform the deeds of the people of the Fire until there is between him and it only a cubit, then the decree overtakes him and he is sealed with the deeds of the people of Paradise, so he becomes one of its people.
