حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورٌ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ، فَأُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ: وَالْمُرْسَلاتِ فَجَعَلْنَا نَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْهُ، فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ مِنْ جَانِبِ الْغَارِ، فَقَالَ: اقْتُلُوهَا. فَتَبَادَرْنَاهَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا فَقَالَ: إِنَّهَا وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ، كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا.

✧ We were with the Messenger of God ﷺ in a cave when 'By those sent forth' was revealed to him. We began to receive it from him, when a snake came out of the side of the cave. He said: 'Kill it.' We rushed toward it, but it got ahead of us. He said: 'It was protected from your harm just as you were protected from its harm.'
