حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ: الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَلَمْ يَلْبِسُوا إِيمَانَهُمْ بِظُلْمٍ قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَأَيُّنَا لَا يَظْلِمُ نَفْسَهُ؟ قَالَ: لَيْسَ ذَاكَ، هُوَ الشِّرْكَ، أَلَمْ تَسْمَعُوا مَا قَالَ لُقْمَانُ لِابْنِهِ: لا تُشْرِكْ بِاللهِ إِنَّ الشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيمٌ.

✧ When this verse was revealed: Those who believe and do not mix their faith with wrongdoing, they said: O Messenger of Allah, which of us does not wrong himself? He said: It is not that. It is shirk. Have you not heard what Luqman said to his son: Do not associate partners with Allah. Indeed, shirk is a great wrongdoing.
