✧ I asked Ibn Umar, or a man asked him: 'We travel in this land and meet people who say: There is no divine decree.' Ibn Umar said: 'When you meet those people, tell them that Abdullah b. Umar is free of them and they are free of him.' He said it three times. Then he began to narrate to us. He said: 'While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, may I come close?" He said: "Come close." He came close by a step. Then he said: "O Messenger of Allah, may I come close?" He said: "Come close." He came close by a step. Then he said: "O Messenger of Allah, may I come close?" He said: "Come close." He came close by a step, until his knees almost touched the knee of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then he said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is faith?"'
