✧ I was not barred from private conversation, nor from such-and-such, nor from such-and-such. Ibn 'Awn said: 'He forgot one, and I forgot one.' He said: 'I came to him while Malik b. Murarah al-Rahawi was with him, and I caught the end of his speech while he was saying: "O Messenger of God, I have been given a share of beauty as you see, and I would not like anyone among the people to surpass me by even two shoelaces or more. Is that not arrogance?" He said: "No, that is not arrogance. Rather, arrogance is when someone rejects the truth and looks down on people."'
