حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ وَحَجَّاجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُعَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ

جَاءَنَا كِتَابُ عُمَرَ، وَنَحْنُ بِأَذْرَبِيجَانَ مَعَ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ، أَوْ بِالشَّامِ: أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْحَرِيرِ إِلَّا هَكَذَا إِصْبَعَيْنِ

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar
  2. Shuʿbah And Ḥajjāj
  3. Shuʿbahuʿan Qatādah

✧ A letter of 'Umar came to us while we were in Azerbaijan with 'Utba b. Farqad, or in Syria: "To proceed: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade silk except this much, two fingers."
