✧ When the verse about debt was revealed, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The first to deny was Adam ﷺ '—he said it three times—. When Allah created Adam (peace and blessings be upon him), He wiped his back and brought forth from it all his descendants until the Day of Resurrection. He showed them to him, and he saw among them a man shining brightly. He said: 'O my Lord, which prophet is this?' He said: 'This is your son Dawud.' He said: 'O my Lord, how long is his lifespan?' He said: 'Sixty years.' He said: 'O my Lord, increase his lifespan.' He said: 'No, unless you give him from your own lifespan.' And Adam's lifespan was one thousand years, so he gave him forty years from his own lifespan. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, wrote a record for him and made the angels witness it. When Adam ﷺ was near death, the angels came to take his soul. He said: 'My term has not yet come; there remain forty years of my lifespan.' They said: 'You gave them to your son Dawud.' He said: 'I did not do that, nor did I give him anything.' Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, brought forth the record and set the angels against him.
