حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
أَجْنَبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَمَيْمُونَةُ، فَاغْتَسَلَتْ مَيْمُونَةُ فِي جَفْنَةٍ، وَفَضَلَتْ فَضْلَةٌ، فَأَرَادَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ مِنْهَا، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي قَدِ اغْتَسَلْتُ مِنْهُ. فَقَالَ: - يَعْنِي: النَّبِيَّ ﷺ - إِنَّ الْمَاءَ لَيْسَتْ عَلَيْهِ جَنَابَةٌ أَوْ قَالَ: إِنَّ الْمَاءَ لَا يَنْجُسُ

✧ The Prophet ﷺ and Maymunah were in a state of major ritual impurity, so Maymunah performed ghusl from a large basin, and some water remained. The Prophet ﷺ wanted to perform ghusl from it, but she said: "O Messenger of God, I have already bathed from it." He—meaning the Prophet ﷺ—said: "Water is not affected by major impurity," or he said: "Water does not become impure."
