✧ When Uthman b. Maz'un died, a woman said, 'Congratulations to you, O son of Maz'un, for Paradise.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at her with an angry look and said to her, 'What do you know? By Allah, I am the Messenger of Allah, and I do not know what will be done with me' - Affan said, 'nor with him.' She said, 'O Messenger of Allah, your knight and your companion!' That became hard on the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he said that about Uthman, who was among their best, until Ruqayyah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died. Then he said, 'Join our good predecessor, Uthman b. Maz'un.' The women wept, and Umar began to strike them with his whip. The Prophet ﷺ said to Umar, 'Let them weep, but beware of the braying of Satan.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whatever comes from the heart and the eye is from Allah and mercy, and whatever comes from the hand and the tongue is from Satan.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat at the edge of the grave, with Fatimah beside him weeping, and the Prophet ﷺ wiped Fatimah's eye with his garment out of mercy for her.
