✧ I came to Ibn Abbas and said: So-and-so got married. He brought food close to us, and we ate. Then he brought close to us thirteen lizards. Some ate and some refrained. One of those with Ibn Abbas said: I will not eat it, nor forbid it, nor command it, nor prohibit it. Ibn Abbas said: How bad is what you say! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was not sent except as one who makes lawful and makes unlawful. It was brought close to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he stretched out his hand to eat from it. Maymunah said: O Messenger of Allah, it is lizard meat. So he withdrew his hand and said: This is meat I have never eaten, so eat. So al-Fadl b. al-Abbas, Khalid b. al-Walid, and a woman who was with them ate. Maymunah said: I do not eat from what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not eat.
