✧ Al-Miswar b. Makhrama entered upon Ibn Abbas to visit him during an illness, wearing a silk brocade cloak. He said: “O Abu Abbas, what is this garment?” He replied: “What is it?” He said: “It is silk brocade!” He said: “By Allah, I did not know it. I do not think the Prophet ﷺ forbade this when he forbade it except because of arrogance and pride, and we, by Allah’s praise, are not like that.” He said: “What are these images in the brazier?” He said: “Do you not see that we have burned them with fire?” When al-Miswar left, he said: “Remove this garment from me, and cut off the heads of these statues.” They said: “O Abu Abbas, if you took them to the market, would they not bring more with the head?” He said: “No.” So he commanded that their heads be cut off.
