حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

كَانَ الطَّلَاقُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَسَنَتَيْنِ مِنْ خِلَافَةِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، طَلَاقُ الثَّلَاثِ: وَاحِدَةً، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدِ اسْتَعْجَلُوا فِي أَمْرٍ كَانَ لَهُمْ فِيهِ أَنَاةٌ، فَلَوْ أَمْضَيْنَاهُ عَلَيْهِمْ. فَأَمْضَاهُ عَلَيْهِمْ

Translation

✧ Divorce during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, and two years of the caliphate of Umar b. al-Khattab: the triple divorce was considered one. Umar said: 'The people have hastened in a matter in which they had deliberation. If only we would enforce it upon them.' So he enforced it upon them.
