✧ I was sleeping in the mosque on a cloak of mine, and it was stolen. We caught the thief and brought him to the Prophet ﷺ, and he ordered that his hand be cut off. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, for a cloak worth thirty dirhams? I give it to him, or I sell it to him." He said: "Why was this not before you brought him to me?"

machine translationIn some of its chains of transmission is Ḥumayd, the son of Ṣafwān's sister, who is not known except through this report. In some of its routes, it is from ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abī Bashīr, from ʿIkrimah, from Ṣafwān, yet we do not know that ʿIkrimah heard it from Ṣafwān; rather, he narrates it from Ibn ʿAbbās. In some of them, it is from Ṭāwus, from Ṣafwān, and al-Bazzār said that Ṭāwus narrated it as a mursal report (mursal).
