✧ We came to Syria, and Abu al-Darda' came to us and said: 'Is there anyone among you who can recite to me the recitation of 'Abdullah?' They pointed to me. I said: 'Yes, I can.' He said: 'How did you hear 'Abdullah recite this verse: "By the night when it covers, and the day when it appears"?' I said: 'I heard him recite: "By the night when it covers, and the day when it appears, and the male and the female."' He said: 'And I, by Allah, heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite it this way, but these people want me to recite "and [by] He who created" and I will not follow them.'
