✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said to me: “When you become lawful, inform me.” She informed him, and Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān, Abū al-Jahm, and Usāmah b. Zayd proposed to her. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “As for Muʿāwiyah, he is a poor man with no wealth. As for Abū al-Jahm, he is a man who beats women. But Usāmah...” He said: She gestured with her hand like this: “Usāmah! Usāmah!”—meaning she did not want him. The Messenger of God ﷺ said to her: “Obedience to God and obedience to His Messenger is better for you.” So she married him and was pleased with him.
