machine translationYaʿqūb b. ʿAbdillāh b. al-Ashajj narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Yazīd b. Abī Ḥabīb narrated it, and there is disagreement about him as well. Al-Layth b. Saʿd and Ibn Lahīʿah narrated it from Yazīd b. Abī Ḥabīb, from al-Ḥārith b. Yaʿqūb, from Yaʿqūb b. al-Ashajj, from Busr b. Saʿīd, from Saʿd b. Abī Waqqāṣ, from Khawlah. Ibn ʿAjlān narrated it from Yaʿqūb b. al-Ashajj, and there is disagreement about him. Wuhayb said: from Ibn ʿAjlān, from Yaʿqūb b. al-Ashajj, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, from Saʿd, from Khawlah, and he did not say Busr b. Saʿīd. This is the narration of Aḥmad b. Isḥāq al-Ḥaḍramī, Muʿallā b. Asad and Isḥāq b. Idrīs from Wuhayb. ʿAṭāʾ narrated it from Wuhayb, from Ibn ʿAjlān, from Yaʿqūb, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, from Khawlah, and he did not mention Saʿd b. Abī Waqqāṣ between them. Ibn ʿUyaynah, Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān and Ḥātim b. Ismāʿīl narrated it from Ibn ʿAjlān, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, as a mursal report from the Prophet ﷷ. Layth b. Saʿd narrated it from Bukayr b. al-Ashajj, from Sulaymān b. Yasār and Busr b. Saʿīd, who both said: A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "A scorpion stung me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If only you had said, when evening came..." the ḥadīth, as a mursal report. The first view is more authentic (aṣaḥḥ)."

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

أهل الحديث يقولون إن رواية الليث هي الصواب دون رواية ابن عجلان ورواية ابن وهب عن الليث أصح من رواية قتيبة عندي في هذا

machine translationThe hadith scholars say that the narration of al-Layth is the correct one, rather than the narration of Ibn ʿAjlān, and that the narration of Ibn Wahb from al-Layth is sounder (aṣaḥḥ) than the narration of Qutaybah, in my view, in this matter.
