حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَعْنِي النَّهْشَلِيَّ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْجَزَّارِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثَمَانِيَ رَكَعَاتٍ، وَيُوتِرُ بِثَلَاثٍ، وَيُصَلِّي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ، فَلَمَّا كَبِرَ صَارَ إِلَى تِسْعٍ، وَسِتٍّ وَثَلَاثٍ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ used to pray eight rak'ahs at night, and then he would perform the witr prayer with three rak'ahs. He would pray two more rak'ahs, so when he said the takbeer, it became nine, six, and three.
