حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ ذَكْوَانَ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ الرُّبَيِّعَ بِنْتَ مُعَوِّذِ بْنِ عَفْرَاءَ عَنْ صَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ: مَنْ أَصْبَحَ مِنْكُمْ صَائِمًا ؟ قَالَ: قَالُوا: مِنَّا الصَّائِمُ، وَمِنَّا الْمُفْطِرُ. قَالَ: فَأَتِمُّوا بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِكُمْ، وَأَرْسِلُوا إِلَى مَنْ حَوْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ فَلْيُتِمُّوا بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِمْ
Translation

✧ I asked al-Rubayyiʿ bt. Muʿawwidh b. ʿAfraʾ about fasting on Ashura, and she said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said on the day of Ashura: "Who among you began the day fasting?" He said: They said: "Among us are those fasting and among us are those not fasting." He said: "Complete the remainder of your day, and send word to those around Madinah to complete the remainder of their day."
