✧ I brought a son of mine for whom I had hung a talisman, fearing that he might have the uvula (al-'udhra). The Prophet ﷺ said: "Why do you press your children's throats with these hanging remedies? Upon you is this Indian wood (al-'ud al-hindi)—meaning costus (al-kust)—for in it are seven cures, among them pleurisy (dhat al-janb)." Then the Prophet ﷺ took her boy and placed him in his lap, and he urinated on him. So he called for water and sprinkled it on him. The boy had not yet reached the age of eating food. Al-Zuhri said: "Thus the sunnah was established that a boy's urine is sprinkled, while a girl's urine is washed."
