✧ Abu Bakr set out as a merchant to Busra, and with him were Nu'ayman and Suwaybit b. Harmalah, both of whom were Badri. Suwaybit was in charge of the provisions. Nu'ayman came to him and said: Feed me. He said: No, not until Abu Bakr comes. Nu'ayman was a man who joked and made people laugh. He said: I will anger you. He went to some people who had brought camels and said: Buy from me a capable Arab slave, and he is eloquent. Perhaps he will say: I am free. If you would leave him for that reason, then leave me alone and do not spoil my slave for me. They said: Rather, we will buy him from you for ten young camels. He came with them driving them, and he brought the people until he hobbled them, then he said to the people: Here he is for you. The people came and said: We have bought you. Suwaybit said: He is lying. I am a free man. They said: He already...

machine translationAl-Zuhrī narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Abū ʿĀmir al-ʿAqadī and Rawḥ b. ʿUbādah narrated it from Zamʿah from al-Zuhrī, saying: Wahb b. ʿAbdullāh b. Zamʿah, from Umm Salamah. Wakīʿ said likewise on one occasion, and on another occasion Wakīʿ narrated it and said as Rawḥ and Abū ʿĀmir said. Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal said: The correct (ṣaḥīḥ) form is Wahb b. ʿAbdullāh b. Zamʿah. Isḥāq b. Rāshid narrated it from al-Zuhrī, and Rawḥ differed from Abū Dāwūd, Abū ʿĀmir and Wakīʿ in its text (matn). In the narration of Rawḥ: Suwaybiṭ was in charge of the provisions, so al-Nuʿaymān came to him asking him for provisions. And this is more fitting.
