✧ I entered upon Hafsah bint 'Abd al-Rahman and said, 'I am going to ask you about a matter, and I am shy to ask you about it!' She said, 'Do not be shy, O son of my brother.' He said, 'About coming to women in their behinds.' She said, 'Umm Salamah told me that the Ansar used not to approach women from behind, and the Jews used to say that whoever approached his wife from behind would have a cross-eyed child. When the Emigrants came to Madinah, they married women of the Ansar and approached them from behind. A woman refused to obey her husband, and she said to her husband, 'You will not do that until I go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' She entered upon Umm Salamah and mentioned that to her. She said, 'Sit until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ comes.' When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came, the Ansari woman was too shy to ask him, so she left. Umm Salamah told the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, 'Call the Ansari woman.' She was called, and he recited to her this verse: 'Your wives are a tilth for you, so come to your tilth as you wish' — one opening.
