✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed the captives of Banu al-Mustaliq, Juwayriyyah bt. al-Harith fell to the share of Thabit b. Qays b. al-Shammas—or to a cousin of his—and she made a contract with him for her ransom. She was a sweet, captivating woman; no one saw her but that she took hold of his heart. She came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking his help in her ransom. She said: By Allah, no sooner did I see her at the door of my room than I disliked her, and I knew that he would see in her what I saw. She entered upon him and said: O Messenger of Allah, I am Juwayriyyah bt. al-Harith b. Abi Dirar, the chief of his people. I have been afflicted with a trial that is not hidden from you, and I fell to the share of Thabit b. Qays b. al-Shammas—or to a cousin of his—and I made a contract with him for my ransom. I have come to you to seek your help with my ransom. He said: Would you like something better than that? She said: What is it, O Messenger of Allah? He said: I will pay your ransom and marry you. She said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: I have done so. She said: The news went out to the people that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had married Juwayriyyah bt. al-Harith, so the people said: The in-laws of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ! And they sent what was in their hands. She said: By his marrying her, one hundred households of Banu al-Mustaliq were set free. I know of no woman who was a greater blessing to her people than she.
