حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ يَعْنِي الْعَطَّارَ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَجُلٌ: كَمْ يَكْفِينِي مِنَ الْوَضُوءِ ؟ قَالَ: مُدٌّ، قَالَ: كَمْ يَكْفِينِي لِلْغُسْلِ ؟ قَالَ: صَاعٌ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: لَا يَكْفِينِي. قَالَ: لَا أُمَّ لَكَ، قَدْ كَفَى مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْكَ؛ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ

Translation

✧ A man asked: How much water suffices me for ablution? He said: A mudd. He said: How much suffices me for the major ablution (ghusl)? He said: A saʿ. The man said: That is not enough for me. He said: May your mother be bereft of you! It sufficed one better than you—the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
