حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَتْنِي فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَتْ حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمِّي أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ

سَأَلَتْ عَائِشَةَ. وَأَرْسَلَهَا عَمُّهَا فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أَحَدَ بَنِيكِ يُقْرِئُكِ السَّلَامَ، وَيَسْأَلُكِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ فَإِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ شَتَمُوهُ. فَقَالَتْ: لَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ لَعَنَهُ فَوَاللهِ لَقَدْ كَانَ قَاعِدًا عِنْدَ نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ، وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَمُسْنِدٌ ظَهْرَهُ إِلَيَّ، وَإِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ لَيُوحِي إِلَيْهِ الْقُرْآنَ، وَإِنَّهُ لَيَقُولُ لَهُ: اكْتُبْ يَا عُثَيْمُ. فَمَا كَانَ اللهُ لِيُنْزِلَهُ تِلْكَ الْمَنْزِلَةَ إِلَّا كَرِيمًا عَلَى اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ

Translation

✧ She asked Aishah. Her uncle sent her and said: One of your sons sends you greetings of peace and asks you about Uthman b. Affan, for the people have reviled him. She said: May Allah curse whoever curses him. By Allah, he was sitting with the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was leaning his back against me, and Jibril was revealing the Quran to him, and he was saying to him: Write, O 'Uthaym. Allah would not have placed him in that station unless he were noble in the sight of Allah and His Messenger.
