حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ كَانُوا يَصُومُونَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ قَبْلَ

كَانُوا يَصُومُونَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُفْرَضَ رَمَضَانُ، وَكَانَ يَوْمًا فِيهِ تُسْتَرُ الْكَعْبَةُ، فَلَمَّا فَرَضَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ رَمَضَانَ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يَصُومَهُ فَلْيَصُمْهُ، وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يَتْرُكَهُ فَلْيَتْرُكْهُ

✧ They used to fast the day of Ashura before Ramadan was made obligatory, and it was a day on which the Kabah was veiled. When Allah, Mighty and Majestic, made Ramadan obligatory, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever wishes to fast it, let him fast it, and whoever wishes to leave it, let him leave it.”
