حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَيَّاشِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ
قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ وَهِيَ أَنْجَالٌ وَغَرْقَدٌ، فَاشْتَكَى آلُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، فَاسْتَأْذَنْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي عِيَادَةِ أَبِي، فَأَذِنَ لِي فَأَتَيْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَةِ، كَيْفَ تَجِدُكَ ؟ قَالَ: كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مُصَبَّحٌ فِي أَهْلِهِ وَالْمَوْتُ أَدْنَى مِنْ شِرَاكِ نَعْلِهِ قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ: هَجَرَ وَاللهِ أَبِي، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ عَامِرَ بْنَ فُهَيْرَةَ فَقُلْتُ: أَيْ عَامِرُ، كَيْفَ تَجِدُكَ ؟ قَالَ: وَجَدْتُ الْمَوْتَ قَبْلَ ذَوْقِهِ إِنَّ الْجَبَانَ حَتْفُهُ مِنْ فَوْقِهِ قَالَتْ: فَأَتَيْتُ بِلَالًا، فَقُلْتُ: يَا بِلَالُ، كَيْفَ تَجِدُكَ ؟ فَقَالَ: أَلَا لَيْتَ شِعْرِي هَلْ أَبِيتَنَّ لَيْلَةً بِفَخٍّ وَحَوْلِي إِذْخِرٌ وَجَلِيلُ فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي صَاعِنَا، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي مُدِّنَا، وَحَبِّبْ إِلَيْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ كَمَا حَبَّبْتَ إِلَيْنَا مَكَّةَ، وَانْقُلْ عَنَّا وَبَاءَهَا إِلَى خُمٍّ وَمَهْيَعَةَ

✧ We arrived in Madinah when it was a land of pasture and boxthorn, and the family of Abū Bakr fell ill. I asked the Prophet ﷺ for permission to visit my father, and he permitted me, so I went to him and said, 'O father, how do you find yourself?' He said, 'Every man is struck down amidst his family, while death is nearer than the strap of his sandal.' She said: I said, 'By Allah, my father is delirious.' Then I went to ʿĀmir b. Fuhayrah and said, 'O ʿĀmir, how do you find yourself?' He said, 'I found death before tasting it; the coward's death comes to him from above.' She said: Then I went to Bilāl and said, 'O Bilāl, how do you find yourself?' He said, 'Would that I knew whether I shall spend a night at Fakhkh with sweet rush and fresh grass around me.' Then I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him. He said, 'O Allah, bless us in our ṣāʿ, bless us in our mudd, make Madinah beloved to us as You made Makkah beloved, and transfer its fever to Khumm and Mahyaʿah.'
