machine translationThe hadith of al-Aswad from ʿĀʾishah, that the Prophet ﷺ used to perform ablution before sleeping, meaning when in a state of major impurity (junub), is more sound (aṣaḥḥ) than the hadith of Abū Isḥāq from al-Aswad from ʿĀʾishah: "The Prophet ﷺ would sleep while in a state of major impurity and would not touch water." They consider this to be a mistake (ghalaṭ) on the part of Abū Isḥāq.
in مسند أحمد, p. 26466 - Dāraquṭnī
machine translationWhat is sound (ṣaḥīḥ) in this matter is what ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Aswad and Ibrāhīm al-Nakhaʿī narrated from al-Aswad, from ʿĀʾishah.
in مسند أحمد, p. 26466 - al-Tirmidhi
machine translationThis is more authentic than the hadith of Abū Isḥāq: "The Prophet used to sleep in a state of janābah without touching water."
in مسند أحمد, p. 26466 - Dāraquṭnī
machine translationIt seems that both reports could be authentic (ṣaḥīḥ): the report of al-Aswad mentioning ablution before sleeping while in a state of janābah, and the hadith of Abū Isḥāq saying that he did not touch water, because ʿĀʾishah said: Sometimes he would bring the bathing forward and sometimes he would delay it.
in مسند أحمد, p. 26466
