حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيٌّ عَنْ يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو قِلَابَةَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ شَيْبَةَ خَازِنَ الْبَيْتِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ طَرَقَهُ وَجَعٌ، فَجَعَلَ يَشْتَكِي وَيَتَقَلَّبُ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ عَائِشَةُ: لَوْ فَعَلَ هَذَا بَعْضُنَا لَوَجَدْتَ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يُشَدَّدُ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ مُؤْمِنٍ تُصِيبُهُ نَكْبَةٌ شَوْكَةٌ وَلَا وَجَعٌ، إِلَّا رَفَعَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً، وَحَطَّ عَنْهُ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً أَوْ كَالَّذِي قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ was afflicted with pain, and he began to complain and turn over on his bed. Aishah said to him: If one of us did this, you would be upset with her. He said: Believers are subjected to hardship, for there is no believer who is afflicted by a calamity, a thorn, or pain, but Allah, Mighty and Majestic, raises him a degree thereby and removes from him a sin thereby. Or as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said.
