حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ
فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللهِ قَالَتْ: كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ مِمَّنْ يُهِلُّ لِمَنَاةَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، وَمَنَاةُ صَنَمٌ بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ، قَالُوا: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، إِنَّا كُنَّا نَطَّوَّفُ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ تَعْظِيمًا لِمَنَاةَ، فَهَلْ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ حَرَجٍ أَنْ نَطُوفَ بِهِمَا، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللهِ فَمَنْ حَجَّ الْبَيْتَ أَوِ اعْتَمَرَ فَلا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا

✧ Regarding His saying, Mighty and Majestic: 'Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah,' she said: There were men among the Ansar who used to consecrate for Manat in the pre-Islamic period, and Manat was an idol between Makkah and Madinah. They said, 'O Prophet of Allah, we used to circumambulate between as-Safa and al-Marwah in veneration of Manat, so is there any blame on us if we circumambulate between them?' Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: 'Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever performs Hajj to the House or performs Umrah, there is no blame on him if he circumambulates between them.'
