✧ The wives of the Prophet ﷺ gathered and sent Fatimah to the Prophet ﷺ. They told her: 'Say to him: Your wives adjure you to be just regarding the daughter of Abu Quhafah.' She said: She entered upon the Prophet ﷺ while he was with Aishah in her cloak. She said to him: 'Your wives have sent me to you, and they adjure you to be just regarding the daughter of Abu Quhafah.' The Prophet ﷺ said to her: 'Do you love me?' She said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then love her.' She returned to them and told them what he had said to her. They said: 'You have done nothing; go back to him.' She said: 'By Allah, I will never go back to him about her.' Al-Zuhri said: She was truly the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then they sent Zaynab bint Jahsh. Aishah said: She was the one who used to rival me among the wives of the Prophet ﷺ. She said: 'Your wives have sent me to you, and they adjure you to be just regarding the daughter of Abu Quhafah.' She said: Then she turned on me and abused me. I began watching the Prophet ﷺ and looking at his eye to see if he would permit me to defend myself against her. He did not speak. She said: She abused me until I thought he would not dislike me defending myself against her. I faced her, and before long I silenced her. She said: The Prophet ﷺ said to her: 'She is the daughter of Abu Bakr.' Aishah said: I have not seen a woman better than her, more charitable, more maintaining of kinship ties, and more generous of herself in everything by which one draws near to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, than Zaynab, except for a sharpness in her from an excess of vehemence that she could quickly recover from.
