✧ The sun eclipsed during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the mosque, stood, said the takbir, and the people lined up behind him. He said the takbir and recited a long recitation, then said the takbir and bowed for a long time. Then he said: 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah,' and stood without prostrating, then recited a long recitation that was shorter than the first recitation, then said the takbir and bowed for a long time that was shorter than the first bowing. Then he said: 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana laka al-hamd,' then prostrated. Then he did the same in the other rak'ah, completing four rak'ahs and four prostrations, and the sun cleared before he finished. Then he stood and praised Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, as He deserves, then said: 'They are only two signs from among the signs of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. They do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone. So when you see them, hasten to prayer.' Kathir b. Abbas narrated that Abdullah b. Abbas used to narrate about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the solar eclipse the same as Urwah narrated from Aishah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ. I said to Urwah: 'Your brother on the day of the solar eclipse in Madinah did not do more than two rak'ahs like the morning prayer.' He said: 'Indeed, he erred from the Sunnah.'
