✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to like sweets and honey. When he had prayed 'Asr, he would go around to his wives and draw near to them. He entered upon Hafsah and stayed with her longer than he usually did. I asked about that and was told: 'A woman of her people gave her a skin of honey as a gift, and she gave the Messenger of Allah ﷺ some of it to drink.' I said: 'By Allah, we will contrive a plan against him.' I mentioned that to Sawdah and said: 'When he enters upon you, he will draw near to you. Say to him: O Messenger of Allah, have you eaten maghafir? He will say to you: No. Then say to him: What is this smell? — and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked that an odor should be found on him — He will say to you: Hafsah gave me a drink of honey. Then say to him: Its bees grazed on 'urfut. I will say that to him, and you, O Safiyyah, say it too.' When he entered upon Sawdah, Sawdah said: 'By the One besides whom there is no deity, I was about to confront him with what you told me, while he was at the door, out of fear of you.' When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ drew near, I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, have you eaten maghafir?' He said: 'No.' I said: 'What is this smell?' He said: 'Hafsah gave me a drink of honey.' She said: 'Its bees grazed on 'urfut.' When he entered upon me, I said the like of that to him. Then he entered upon Safiyyah and she said the like of that to him. When he entered upon Hafsah, she said: 'O Messenger of Allah, shall I not give you some of it to drink?' He said: 'I have no need of it.' She [the narrator] said: 'Sawdah said: Glory be to Allah! By Allah, we have deprived him.' I said to her: 'Be quiet.'
