حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ حِينَ مَاتَ رَافِعُ بْنُ خَدِيجٍ: إِنَّ بُكَاءَ الْحَيِّ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ عَذَابٌ لِلْمَيِّتِ، فَأَتَيْتُ عَمْرَةَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهَا، فَقَالَتْ: قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: إِنَّمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِيَهُودِيَّةٍ: إِنَّكُمْ لَتَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهَا وَإِنَّهَا لَتُعَذَّبُ، وَقَرَأَتْ: وَلا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى.

✧ I heard Ibn ʿUmar, when Rāfiʿ b. Khadīj died, say: 'The weeping of the living over the dead is a punishment for the dead.' So I came to ʿAmrah and mentioned that to her, and she said: ʿĀʾishah said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ only said concerning a Jewish woman: "You are weeping over her, and she is being punished."' And she recited: 'And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another.'
