حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ
أَنَّ بَرِيرَةَ أَتَتْهَا تَسْتَعِينُهَا وَكَانَتْ مُكَاتَبَةً، فَقَالَتْ لَهَا عَائِشَةُ: أَيَبِيعُكِ أَهْلُكِ ؟ فَأَتَتْ أَهْلَهَا فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لَهُمْ، فَقَالُوا: لَا، إِلَّا أَنْ تَشْتَرِطَ لَنَا وَلَاءَهَا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: اشْتَرِيهَا فَأَعْتِقِيهَا، فَإِنَّمَا الْوَلَاءُ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ.

✧ Aisha said, "Would you sell your family?" So she went to her family and mentioned it to them. They said, "Not unless you stipulate that we have her freedom." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Buy her and set her free, for loyalty belongs to the one who sets someone free."
