✧ I met ʿItban b. Malik and said: “What is the hadith that reached me from you?” He said: “Tell me.” He said: “There was some weakness in my sight, so I sent to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: ‘I would like you to come to my house and pray in it so I can take it as a prayer place.’” He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came with whoever of his companions he wished. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed in his house while his companions talked and mentioned the hypocrites and what they suffered from them, attributing the greatest part of that to Malik b. Dukhaykhim, and they wished that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would supplicate against him and that evil would befall him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Does he not testify that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah?” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, he says that, but it is not in his heart.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “No one testifies that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah but the Fire will consume him or touch him.”
