✧ Salman al-Farisi besieged a fortress among the fortresses of Persia. His companions said to him: 'O Abu 'Abd Allah, will you not attack them?' He said: 'No, not until I call them as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to call them.' So he went to them and spoke to them, saying: 'I am a Persian man, and I am one of you, and the Arabs obey me. So choose one of three: either you submit (become Muslims), or you pay the jizyah from hand while you are humbled, not praised, or we renounce you and fight you.' They said: 'We will not submit, nor pay the jizyah, but we will renounce you.' Salman returned to his companions. They said: 'Will you not attack them?' He said: 'No.' He called them for three days, but they did not accept. Then he fought them and conquered it.
