What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Abū al-Ḥasan Nur al-Dīn ʿAlī b. Abi Bakr al-Haythamī

machine translationIn it is Ayyūb b. ʿUtbah, and most [scholars] held him to be weak (ḍaʿīf).

    in مسند أحمد, p. 24043
  • al-Bukhari

machine translationThe hadith of Abū Salamah from Muʿayqīb is worthless. Ayyūb did not know the sound (ṣaḥīḥ) part of his hadith from the defective part, so I do not narrate from him. He declared him very weak.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 24043
  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationIt is only from Yaḥyā, from Sālim Sabalān, from ʿĀʾishah. Some of them say: Yaḥyā, from Abū Salamah, from Sālim Sabalān, from ʿĀʾishah. And some of them say: Yaḥyā, from Abū Salamah, from Sālim Sabalān, from ʿĀʾishah, from the Prophet ﷺ.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 24043
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationThis is a mistake, and God knows best. The correct version of this hadith from Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr is what al-Awzāʿī, Ḥarb b. Shaddād, Ḥusayn al-Muʿallim and Shaybān narrated from him, for they agreed on it and narrated it from Yaḥyā, from Sālim, from ʿĀʾishah, with no mention of Abū Salamah in it.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 24043
