✧ He had [a storage room] in an upper chamber [sahwah], and a ghul [a type of jinn] would come and take [things]. He complained about it to the Prophet ﷺ, who said: 'When you see it, say: "In the name of Allah, respond to the Messenger of Allah."' He said: So it came, and he said that to it, and he seized it. It said to him: 'I will not return.' So he released it. Then he came [to the Prophet], and the Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'What did your captive do?' He said: 'I seized it, and it said to me: "I will not return," so I released it.' The Prophet said: 'It will return.' So he seized it twice or three times, each time it said: 'I will not return,' and he would come to the Prophet ﷺ, who would say: 'What did your captive do?' He would say: 'I seized it.' It would say: 'I will not return.' He would say: 'It will return.' So he seized it, and it said: 'Release me and I will teach you something that you can say, and then nothing will come near you: Ayat al-Kursi [the Throne Verse].' So he came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him, and he said: 'It told the truth, though it is a liar.'
