machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā, from Abū Ayyūb, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Whoever says: There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner..." (the hadith). He said: Al-Shaʿbī narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Dāwūd b. Abī Hind and Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā narrated it from al-Shaʿbī, from Ibn Abī Laylā, from Abū Ayyūb. Ismāʿīl b. Abī Khālid narrated it, and there is disagreement about him. ʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim said, from Ismāʿīl, from al-Shaʿbī, from al-Rabīʿ b. Khuthaym, from Ibn Abī Laylā, from Abū Ayyūb, and he raised it to the Prophet ﷺ. Ibn ʿUyaynah said, from Ismāʿīl, from al-Shaʿbī, from al-Rabīʿ b. Khuthaym, from ʿAmr b. Maymūn, from Ibn Abī Laylā, from Abū Ayyūb, and he did not raise it. Al-Shaʿbī said: I met Ibn Abī Laylā and he narrated to me. Yazīd b. ʿAṭāʾ said likewise from Ismāʿīl, and Yaʿlā b. ʿUbayd, Muḥammad b. Isḥāq and Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Umawī followed them in narrating from Ismāʿīl. ʿAbdullāh b. Abī al-Safar narrated it, and there is disagreement about him. ʿUmar b. Abī Zāʾidah narrated it from Ibn Abī al-Safar, from al-Shaʿbī, from al-Rabīʿ b. Khuthaym, like the statement of Ibn ʿUyaynah and those who followed him from Ismāʿīl, except that he raised it to the Prophet ﷺ. Shuʿbah narrated it from Ibn Abī al-Safar, from Ibn Abī Laylā, from Abū Ayyūb as a statement of the Companion (mawqūf); Abū Qaṭan and Rawḥ said this. Muslim said, from Shuʿbah, from Ibn Abī al-Safar, from al-Shaʿbī, from Abū Ayyūb, and he did not mention anyone between them. Abū Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī narrated it from ʿAmr b. Maymūn, who said: someone who heard Abū Ayyūb narrated to me his statement; Abū al-Aḥwaṣ said this from him. Ḥadīj said, from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿAmr b. Maymūn, from Abū Ayyūb, from the Prophet ﷺ; Jaʿfar b. Ḥumayd said this from Ḥadīj. Busrah b. Ṣafwān and Abū Ibrāhīm al-Tarjumānī disagreed with him and said, from Ḥadīj, from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿAmr b. Maymūn, from al-Rabīʿ b. Khuthaym, from Ibn Abī Laylā, from Abū Ayyūb, and they made it mawqūf. ʿUmar b. Abī Zāʾidah said, from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿAmr b. Maymūn, as his own statement, not going beyond him. The hadith is the hadith of Ibn Abī al-Safar from al-Shaʿbī, and he is the one who preserved the chain. Al-Ḥusayn b. Ismāʿīl al-Maḥāmilī narrated to us, he said: ʿAlī b. Muslim narrated to us, he said: Abū ʿĀmir narrated to us, he said: ʿUmar b. Abī Zāʾidah narrated to us, from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿAmr b. Maymūn, who said: "Whoever says: There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner; His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over all things, ten times, is like one who frees four souls from the children of Ismāʿīl." Al-Ḥusayn b. Ismāʿīl narrated to us, he said: ʿAlī b. Muslim narrated to us, he said: Abū ʿĀmir al-ʿAqadī narrated to us, he said: ʿUmar narrated to us, he said: ʿAbdullāh b. Abī al-Safar narrated to us, from al-Shaʿbī, from al-Rabīʿ b. Khuthaym, the like of that. He said: I said to al-Rabīʿ, from whom did you hear it? He said: From ʿAmr b. Maymūn. He said: So I met ʿAmr b. Maymūn and said to him, from whom did you hear it? From Ibn Abī Laylā; so I came to him and said to him, from whom did you hear it? He said: From Abū Ayyūb al-Anṣārī, who narrates it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Al-Bukhārī transmitted it from ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad al-Musnadī, from Abū ʿĀmir, from ʿUmar, with both chains together. He said: And Ibrāhīm b. Yūsuf said, from his father, from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿAmr b. Maymūn, from Ibn Abī Laylā, from Abū Ayyūb. And Mūsā said: Wuhayb narrated to us, he said: Dāwūd narrated to me, from ʿĀmir, from Ibn Abī Laylā, from Abū Ayyūb, from the Prophet ﷺ. And Ismāʿīl said, from al-Shaʿbī, from al-Rabīʿ b. Khuthaym, as his statement. And Ādam narrated to us, he said: Shuʿbah narrated to us, and he said: ʿAbd al-Malik b. Maysarah narrated to us, I heard Hilāl b. Yasāf, from al-Rabīʿ b. Khuthaym, from ʿAmr b. Maymūn, from Ibn Masʿūd, as his statement. And al-Aʿmash and Ḥuṣayn said, from Hilāl, from al-Rabīʿ, from ʿAbdullāh, as his statement. Abū Muḥammad al-Ḥaḍramī narrated it from Abū Ayyūb, from the Prophet ﷺ. The Shaykh al-Dāraquṭnī said: The sound one is the hadith of ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr and Abū ʿĀmir. Muslim transmitted it from Abū Ayyūb al-Ghaylānī, from Abū ʿĀmir al-ʿAqadī. He was asked about Abū Muḥammad al-Ḥaḍramī and said: He is not known except in this alone.
