✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Madinah, the Ansar drew lots over which of them would host the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the lot fell to Abu Ayyub, so he hosted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Whenever food was gifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he would share it with Abu Ayyub. One day Abu Ayyub entered and found a bowl containing onions. He said: 'What is this?' They said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent it.' Abu Ayyub then went to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what prevented you from this bowl?' He said: 'I saw onions in it.' He said: 'Are onions not permissible for us?' He said: 'Yes, so eat it, but I am affected by what does not affect you.'
