حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ قَالَ

كَانَ مَرْثَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ لَا يَجِيءُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ إِلَّا وَمَعَهُ شَيْءٌ يَتَصَدَّقُ بِهِ، قَالَ: فَجَاءَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَعَهُ بَصَلٌ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: أَبَا الْخَيْرِ، مَا تُرِيدُ إِلَى هَذَا؟ يُنْتِنُ عَلَيْكَ ثَوْبَكَ! قَالَ: يَا ابْنَ أَخِي، إِنَّهُ وَاللهِ مَا كَانَ فِي مَنْزِلِي شَيْءٌ أَتَصَدَّقُ بِهِ غَيْرَهُ، إِنَّهُ

Translation

✧ Murthad b. 'Abd Allah would not come to the mosque except with something to give as charity. He said: One day he came to the mosque with an onion, so I said to him: 'O Abu al-Khayr, what do you intend with this? It will make your garment stink!'
