حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ قَالَ
جَلَسْتُ إِلَى شَيْخٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْكُوفَةِ، فَحَدَّثَنِي قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ - أَوْ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ -: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، تُوبُوا إِلَى اللهِ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ، فَإِنِّي أَتُوبُ إِلَى اللهِ وَأَسْتَغْفِرُهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ. فَقُلْتُ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ، اثْنَتَانِ؟، قَالَ: هُوَ مَا أَقُولُ لَكَ
Translation

✧ I sat with a sheikh from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ in the mosque of Kufa, and he narrated to me, saying: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ—or he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said—: O people, repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness, for I repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness one hundred times every day.' I said: 'O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness'—two times? He said: 'It is as I have told you.'
