✧ I sat with Hudhayfah b. al-Yaman and Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari. One of them said to the other: "Relate what you heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ." He said: "No, you relate." So one of them related to his companion, and the other confirmed him. He said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: "A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection, and God will say: 'Look at his deeds.' He will say: 'Lord, I did no good, except that I had wealth and I used to mix with people. Whoever was well-off, I made things easy for him; and whoever was in hardship, I gave him respite until ease.' God, Mighty and Majestic, will say: 'I am more entitled to make things easy.' And He forgave him." Then the other said: "You spoke truth; I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say this."

machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of Ribʿī from Abū Masʿūd, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "A man met his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, and He said: What did you do? He said: I did no good except that I used to lend to people, so I would give respite to the well-off and overlook the one in difficulty. So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: Overlook his faults." And "A man was extravagant (in sin) and said at the time of his death: When I die, burn me..." - the hadith. He said: It is narrated by Abū Mālik al-Ashjaʿī, Nuʿaym b. Abī Hind and ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr, from Ribʿī, from Ḥudhayfah and Abū Masʿūd. Abū Khālid al-Aḥmar made an error (wahima) in it: he narrated it from Abū Mālik al-Ashjaʿī, from Ribʿī, from Ḥudhayfah, and said in it: ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir al-Juhanī and Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī said: "This is how we heard it from the Prophet ﷺ." The correct version is: ʿUqbah b. ʿAmr Abū Masʿūd said.
