حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ حُذَيْفَةَ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ
سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَمْسَكَ الْقَوْمُ ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَجُلًا أَعْطَاهُ فَأَعْطَى الْقَوْمُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَنْ سَنَّ خَيْرًا فَاسْتُنَّ بِهِ كَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُهُ وَمِنْ أُجُورِ مَنْ يَتَّبِعُهُ غَيْرَ مُنْتَقِصٍ مِنْ أُجُورِهِمْ شَيْئًا وَمَنْ سَنَّ شَرًّا فَاسْتُنَّ بِهِ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ وِزْرُهُ وَمِنْ أَوْزَارِ مَنْ يَتَّبِعُهُ غَيْرَ مُنْتَقِصٍ مِنْ أَوْزَارِهِمْ شَيْئًا
Translation

✧ A man asked during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, and the people held back. Then a man gave to him, and the people gave. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever initiates a good practice and it is followed, he will have its reward and the rewards of those who follow him, without diminishing their rewards in any way. And whoever initiates an evil practice and it is followed, he will bear its burden and the burdens of those who follow him, without diminishing their burdens in any way.'
