Translation

✧ I came to Hudhayfah b. al-Yaman while he was narrating about the night journey of Muhammad ﷺ, and he was saying: 'So I set out, or we set out, until we came to Jerusalem, and they did not enter it.' I said, 'Rather, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered it that night and prayed in it.' He said, 'What is your name, O bald one? For I recognize your face but do not know your name.' I said, 'I am Zirr b. Hubaysh.' He said, 'What do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed in it that night?' I said, 'The Quran informs me of that.' He said, 'Whoever argues with the Quran has prevailed. Recite.' So I recited: 'Glory be to Him who took His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque...' He said, 'I do not find that he prayed in it.' He said, 'O bald one, do you find that he prayed in it?' I said, 'No.' He said, 'By Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not pray in it that night. If he had prayed in it, prayer would have been prescribed for you in it, just as prayer was prescribed for you in the Ancient House. By Allah, they did not leave the Buraq until the gates of heaven were opened for them, and they saw Paradise, Hell, and all the promise of the Hereafter. Then they returned as they had come.' He said: Then he laughed until I saw his molar teeth. He said: 'And they narrate that he tied it. Would it flee from him? Rather, the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed made it subservient to him.'
