✧ When we were present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at a meal, we would not put our hands in until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ started and placed his hand. Once we were present with him at a meal, and a slave girl came as if she were being pushed, and she went to put her hand in the food. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took hold of her hand. Then a bedouin came as if he were being pushed, and he went to put his hand in the food. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took hold of his hand. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Satan considers food lawful when Allah's name is not mentioned over it. He brought this slave girl to make it lawful through her, so I took hold of her hand, and he brought this bedouin to make it lawful through him, so I took hold of his hand. By the One in whose hand is my soul, his hand is in my hand along with their hands—meaning Satan.'

machine translationThis is an error. Al-Aʿmash narrated it from Khaythamah, from Abū Ḥudhayfah al-Arḥabī, from Ḥudhayfah, and it is not from the hadith of Zayd b. Wahb. So I said to the two of them: "Who is the source of the mistake (wahm)?" They said: "From Maʿmar."
