حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُبَارَكُ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ أَنَّ شَيْخًا مِنْ بَنِي سَلِيطٍ أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أُكَلِّمُهُ فِي سَبْيٍ أُصِيبَ لَنَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَإِذَا هُوَ قَاعِدٌ وَعَلَيْهِ حَلْقَةٌ قَدْ أَطَافَتْ بِهِ وَهُوَ يُحَدِّثُ الْقَوْمَ، عَلَيْهِ إِزَارٌ قُطْنٌ لَهُ غَلِيظٌ، فَأَوَّلُ شَيْءٍ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ وَهُوَ يُشِيرُ بِأُصْبُعَيْهِ: الْمُسْلِمُ أَخُو الْمُسْلِمِ، لَا يَظْلِمُهُ وَلَا يَخْذُلُهُ، التَّقْوَى هَاهُنَا، التَّقْوَى هَاهُنَا

Translation

✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to speak to him about captives that were taken from us in the pre-Islamic period, and there he was sitting with a group gathered around him while he was addressing the people, wearing a thick cotton lower garment. The first thing I heard him say, while pointing with his two fingers, was: 'The Muslim is the brother of the Muslim; he does not wrong him nor forsake him. Piety is here, piety is here.'
