حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ مُزَيْنَةَ أَوْ جُهَيْنَةَ قَالَ
كَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِذَا كَانَ قَبْلَ الْأَضْحَى بِيَوْمٍ، أَوْ بِيَوْمَيْنِ أَعْطَوْا جَذَعَيْنِ، وَأَخَذُوا ثَنِيًّا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنَّ الْجَذَعَةَ تُجْزِئُ مِمَّا تُجْزِئُ مِنْهُ الثَّنِيَّةُ
Translation

✧ The companions of the Prophet ﷺ, when it was one or two days before the sacrifice, would give two jadhaʿas and take a thaniyya. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The jadhaʿa suffices for what the thaniyya suffices.
