حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَوْفٌ عَنْ أَبِي الْمِنْهَالِ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ قَالَ
كَانَ مِنَّا مَعْشَرَ الْأَشْعَرِيِّينَ رَجُلٌ قَدْ صَاحَبَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَشَهِدَ مَعَهُ الْمَشَاهِدَ الْحَسَنَةَ الْجَمِيلَةَ قَالَ عَوْفٌ حَسِبْتُ أَنَّهُ يُقَالُ لَهُ مَالِكٌ أَوْ أَبُو مَالِكٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَقْوَامًا مَا هُمْ بِأَنْبِيَاءَ وَلَا شُهَدَاءَ يَغْبِطُهُمُ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ بِمَكَانِهِمْ مِنَ اللهِ
Translation

✧ Among us, the Ash'aris, there was a man who had accompanied the Messenger of God ﷺ and witnessed with him the good and beautiful battles. 'Awf said: I think he was called Malik or Abu Malik. He said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: "I have known peoples who are not prophets or martyrs, whom the prophets and martyrs envy for their station with God."
